Photoshop CS versus CS2 versus CS3

So, my computer got cranky last night because it didn't approve of a freaking mouse driver, and crashed four times. Whut tha feck, WinXP, way to overreact. All fixed now, but JEEZ.

Because of this massive overturn of my entire system over something so violently stupid, my copy of Photoshop needed reactivation. Which, honestly, is a major hassle in my opinion. (I've been using it for years, through many errors and hard reboots, and now a mouse makes it require full reactivation. Feh!)

This got me to thinking, though--as I said, I've been using this version of Photoshop for years. And now I'm curious. I know a lot of you folks out there work with Photoshop too--I'm curious how many of you have updated from an earlier version, and how the newer ones compare. The only update I've ever done was from 7 to CS (aka 8), and there wasn't that much of a difference in regards to what I actually use the program for.

Anywho. I'm asking because I've been seriously debating getting CS2 or CS3, if possible, but I'd hate to get the newer version only to find out that they're impossible for me to use. Does anyone know if there are any major differences between them and CS?

I've heard that the magic wand doesn't behave well in CS2, anti-aliased or not. I honestly don't use it that much anymore--onward and upward!--but it is one of my favorite tools as far as capabilities go, and I don't want to get a "better" version of my most-used program only to find that the stuff I like about it doesn't work.

I...haven't heard anything about CS3, lol. I guess it can't suck too much if I haven't heard about it sucking.

SO ANYWAY. Thoughts, suggestions, recommendations? Are the newer versions worth the install?

Latest Poll Results

Okay, I get it. Folks want more Jak art. You're in luck, because I am participating in Blu's Jak Wallpaper Challenge, so at the latest you'll see something by September. There will probably be stuff before then, though, I do have doodles and such that I've never done anything with, and I have a couple "sequel to CV" oneshots I should get to writing before I forget them completely.

Also, I want to draw TLF!Keira like burning so expect to see that at some point in the hopefully near future. I also do not want to draw TLF!Jak, which is just sad. We'll see, I guess.

Zazzle Stuff

Not completely revamped, but revamped nonetheless! Now with easy-navigation buttons and a new line full of gidgets and joyness featuring chibi!Monster. (Who is absolutely beastly, as you all know.)

...Also, I'm not feeling lazy today, nor was I yesterday, but the mood icon thinger refuses to load for me right now so meh. Whatever.

I would personally recommend CS2. I've heard many complaints about CS3 freezing up the computer more often than CS2, as well as a few kinks that it has. I can agree with the complaints because I actually used CS3 at school when I had to make an icon or two. Trust me, the experience absolutely sucked. With CS2 (I'm not sure if it was because of the type of computer I had or some other thing) there was little to no freezing. At all.

True, the magic wand is absolute crap on CS2, but I'd rather have that than having my computer freeze up every 5 minutes while trying to color or ink something. I prefer using the polygonal lasso tool anyways.

i don't have any troubles with CS3 (then again, my grandmother got me the extended version of it... which i was very surprised she did since i'm not exactly her 'favorite';)

but then again, i've never upgraded, so i don't know the difference between the two. that, and i have Vista, so maybe there's some kind of bug that Microsoft may have fixed... but they may not have, i just haven't experienced it yet.
